The sisters of Lazarus were heartbroken with the passing of their brother. They believed that Jesus would have been able to save their brother. What they didn’t know is that Jesus had much bigger plans, and that he, as the resurrection and the life, would give life to many more.
Jesus is everything that Israel was supposed to be. Israel was supposed to be God’s vine, His vineyard, but they had become a field of wild grapes. Jesus came as the True Vine, and all the branches that abide in Him will bear fruit and be preserved.
Jesus occasionally used illustrations that he later had to explain to those who had trouble understanding. In John 10, he does that, and explains how He is both the door into the sheepfold and the shepherd who guards and guides the sheep.
– In a world where there is so much darkness, we need the light. Jesus is that light, and he can lead anyone out of the darkness, if they will follow him.
We need food to survive. We must eat regularly, or we will die. But even if we eat healthy every day, we will eventually die anyway. However, there is a bread, the bread of life, that if we have it in our lives, we will live forever. Jesus is the bread of life. If we will trust and obey him, we will have eternal life.
